Theme: An Inspirational trip to the past

Okay. So this round we were asked to pic a time before the 1900's and a place and take heavy inspiration from said time and place (some modern ideas allowed, but period of time/place should be noticeable).
Sooo... I picked Scandinavian (South Swedish) Middle class during the 1660 as my pick for Candy. The most obvious modern thing I did was give her a shorter skirt, than what would have been appropriate during the time I know, and instead of the typical hats worn during the time I gave her a "höckle" to make it more clear that she still is a working woman. XD I did really try to keep some of the typical "accessories" though, such as the knife/dagger that the women used to carry as well as the "housewife" bag. Also.. a belt attached needle cushion. XD
Also added the seashell to the poncho(aka Capelet/Palatine) accessory to help tie in the time period inspiration even more (art history students will understand it I'm sure).

Personally I really enjoy this theme so far, and Candy just gave me soooo many options and ideas. But I hope you all like her and her step back in time. ^^

Candy looks really cute in that Scandinavian garb.  The light blues and greens are a great color choice and I like your attention to detail with the bag, knife, and the sea shell pin.

That is indeed a cute outfit. Although, it's probably a good thing you defined South Sweden, 'cause I don't think you'd find a lot of capelets like that in Denmark. I like that you made her middle class. I suspect there won't be all that many of those. ;)

I actually am a former art history student, but I'm a bit confused by the seashell. I'm thinking medieval pilgrimages, but... 1660 seems rather late for that. Especially considering Sweden would no longer be catholic by then. Could you let me in on other seashell uses? XD

Yeah I think the capelets also fall into very regional versions in Sweden as well considering the different provinces and such. XD  And thank you. ^^

Seashells was often used in art and architecture (at least in Sweden), often as a symbol of renewal. Like how the aesthetic of the old Greece and Rome came back to replace the one that the church had established. It was especially used during the 1600 to 1700. There probably where more uses as well, but I can't remember the others atm XD Was a while since I studied Art History now. XD

Hahaha, that I'll believe. We don't even have official folkswear/netional wear in Denmark, because there's too many regional variations to just pick one. XD

Ah yeah, I think I've seen it in furniture and building-addon as well. But then, almost everything had symbolic meaning back then. Hardly ever any coincidences in old art. ;) I'm just focused enough on medieval stuff to only remember the very common pilgrimage symbol, which were actually worn by the pilgrims. XD

Oh god, I just recently found out that you guys don't! Actually surprised me a bit XD  But thinking about it we have several folkwears here too (sometimes different once just in a province too), so I guess I shouldn't really be surprised. Still interesting. ^^

Yus. And true, symbolism everywhere. XD And hey, we all have focus everywhere don't we ;D I kinda wish we had focused a bit more on the medieval era when I studied art history... Especially outside of Sweden/Finland. I think it would have been fun. ^^

It's one of those funny little things... We pretty much got national "everything else", so it is kinda funny. XD

I only got two years before switching major to multimedia, but we didn't have much medieval either. It's just 10 years since my art history days, and a lot of my actual interest were on medieval, so that's part of what really stuck. ;)
One of the most interesting classes I ever had was "building and cityplanning in Rme from 1450 to 1600". Just one big soap opera of famous families trying to off each other around the run to get your family representative to be the next pope. XD

It is indeed funny. XD But we got pretty much national "everything else" too. So you're not alone on that part either. XD

Oooh, still pretty good there. And 10 years?! Wow... I was only 16 then and started my interactive Media studies O_O

That... sounds so damn awesome and fun to study. Can imagine the soap opera feeling. Instead I got to learn about Johan the 14th's architectural progress... Well... and other things too of course XD But I remember that really well because we had an amazing teacher then. XD

Hahaha, I'm 35 now, so that should explain things ;)

Honestly, a good teacher is really what can make a break an art history study.

Thank you! There was a lot of good options to pick the inspiration from, but I'm glad that the one I picked ended up being well liked. ^^
Hehehe, well I couldn't let her walk around with her hair loose now could I? XD During that era it would have been a bad idea. XD
And I really enjoyed adding those accessories X3

You did a beautiful job on the design this fits Candy indeed wel c:
Also I like it how you made it a bid moderner, with making her skirt a bid shorter.

Hopefully it is still enough so people will connect it to the right time still, I did keep it largely the same besides the skirt length (Headgear is just a bit of a class change there really XD).
